The amount of the tax is based on the official rating of the accommodation you’ve booked. You will pay the tax prior to departure by credit card or cash.

Keep in mind that your tour operator’s classification of the hotel may differ from the official classification below:

4+ and 5 Stars Hotel/Apartment €4.4/day
3+ and 4 Stars Hotel/Apartment €3.3/day
1, 2 and 3 Stars Hotel/Apartment €2.20/day

For customers staying longer than 9 days at the same accommodation, the tax is halved starting from the ninth day of you stay.

Note: It is strictly forbidden to practice activities that can cause harm to health and life. If violated the guest will be expelled and penalties will be given.

There is also Majorica pearls from Manacor and last but not least; shoes! At the tourist resorts most shops are open from morning to evening every day. In the villages and in Palma official opening hours are the norm, on week days 10.00 am-1.30 pm and 4.30-8.00. Saturday only mornings and Sundays closed.

The big department stores stay open all day, and take no siesta. The greatest range is obviously to be found in Palma. Here, you will find everything from simple little shops to exclusive boutiques. Why not visit the large and elegant department store El Corte Inglés, with virtually everything on offer, or C & A, a large department store with clothes at relatively low prices? The Spanish chain stores Mango and Zara sell fashion at good prices.

Markets

Most villages and markets have their own market once or a couple of times per week. This is where the villagers do their purchases, and if there is a place to find everything between heaven and earth, this is it. Fruit, vegetables, household utensils, clothes, shoes, sometimes even live animals! Bargaining or haggling is not common practice on Mallorca, but on the markets a discussion of the price may be worth your while. The vendors normally set out their goods at about eight in the morning, and will continue until the siesta.

Good Buys on Mallorca

Shoes
There are plenty of shoe shops on Mallorca, in particular sandals, slip ins, flip flops and other ladies’ summer footwear. Usually, the prices are a little less than back home.

Pottery
Wherever you are on Mallorca, there is beautiful pottery for sale, the manufacture of which is an old tradition, and with a bit of luck you can buy very nice things at reasonable prices.

Alcohol
Wine, beer and spirits are cheap in the Mallorca supermarkets, in particular the larger ones.

Pearls
The world’s third finest pearls are manufactured from fish scales in Manacor. Visit the factory and take the opportunity to purchase pearls at a good price.

Leather and leather goods
On Mallorca you will find good quality leather products at reasonable prices, in particular jackets and belts. The best purchases are done in the town Inca, the main town for leather production on the island. Go there on a Thursday, which is market day.

Olive oil
The olive oil from Mallorca is by many held to be among the best in the Mediterranean, and you are bound to find some locally produced olive oil to bring back home.

Shopping in Alcudia

Shops are abundant in Alcudia. There are the typical tourist shops, with souvenirs, swimming toys and trinkets, but also several well-known chain stores, such as Mango, Diesel, Benetton, to mention a few. Most of them are to be found in the harbour area (Passeig Maritim) and along the main street Carretera D´arta, but there is also a fair choice in the older parts of Alcudia. However, the best shopping, and the best prices, is in Palma. There are several buses every day from Alcudia. Ving arranges so called "shopping trips", full day trips to Palma.

In the old parts of Alcudia, there is an exciting shop by the name of Baccus, which sells Mallorcan food specialties and wines. Beside the town hall in old Alcudia is Sa Cisterna, which sells locally made sausages, salt, olives and much more. You can also have a glass of wine and some fine tapas. A visit to the bodega Can Vidalet is also recommended. This bodega is known for their excellent wines, and you can book a tour, with tapas. Can Vidalet is only fifteen minutes by car from Alcudia, along the road to Pollensa.
